BEST NEWS EVERYONE!

It is with great pleasure that I announce I have a publisher for my novel Sleep Over!

My first published novel will be with Skyhorse Publishing.  They have placed 33 books on the New York Times bestseller list; I hope to add one more to that tally.

I am working closely with one of their editors to get the manuscript where they want it (for a larger audience, more commercial fiction than literary fiction) and I am 10000% on board with getting it to be the best that I possibly can, to reach as large and audience that I can!

I have about 1.5 tons of work to do.  How much writing is that?  Many.  Many writing to do.  Notes on just about every chapter.  Many new chapters to write.

I am so excited!

I have been waiting to tell everything this news for… let’s see, I submitted my first novel to a publisher in 2002, then wrote 5 more books, then, carry the 1… yes, ten thousand years.  But more specifically I had to keep this news about this publisher and this book under wraps for so long!  I am so glad to get to tell you finally.

Hurray for me!  I have a publisher!

I will keep you posted on things to come.

Expect to hear such exciting news like:

  • crumbling under the stress of revisions
  • tackling tough revisions with gusto
  • getting the final draft approved by my editor
  • getting an author photo
  • getting a back blurb
  • getting cover quotes
  • getting a cover!
  • the book going to print
  • a release date
  • and much much more!

This process takes a crazy long time; don’t expect to see my book until 2017 (I think a January release was being tossed around- maybe I will get the best birthday present ever).

I will be sure to keep you posted.

Here’s a link to Skyhorse’s site.  Sleep Over will be under the Talos imprint, with their other great sci-fi, fantasy, and horror.  (For those that don’t know, publishing houses have “imprints” that handle the various genres they work with.)

I’d like to thank everyone who has checked in to see how things are going.  It’s a long process, and having your support has really made a difference to me.

Thanks for reading.  ❤

Zombies Galore, Oddly Satisfying, and Episode 5 of Forgotten

Well dear readers, today I have much to share with you!

Zombies Galore is live, and my piece “Monday Matinee Madness” opens and sets the tone for the collection.  You can actually read my contribution in its entirety for free!  Just “Look Inside”, and because mine is the opening story, you can check it out, which I’m quite pleased about.  🙂

Now onto the latest from my Mathematical Husband, who is persisting on creating these mesmerizing and oddly satisfying pieces of art with his laser cut Wild Gears.  This video shows him using a gear-in-a-gear-*in-a-gear*.  Pretty impressive.

And now for another thing you can check out.  Forgotten is my strange little audo project which I’m going to keep calling an Oddcast.  I’ve just put up episode 5 for you, and it’s called “Choices”.  We’re getting better at this.

I’ll leave it at that.  Thanks for stopping by.

Good News Everyone!

Hello all.  So glad to be able to share some more good news with you today: a short story of mine, “Mirror Twenty-Two” has been published!  It’s part of the online portion of the Haunted Waters Press ‘From the Depths’ magazine.

…And you can read it for free!  It’s a paranormal-military-action-horror.

“For our purposes, that little girl is no longer a little girl,” he said with measured calm.

I want to thank everyone that has subscribed to my blog.  It’s really nice to have a few people interested in my work.  I’m so, so grateful for your readership, and it’s nice that I can share some nifty things with you.  🙂

“Mirror Twenty-Two” by H.G. Bleackley

Hopefully I’ll have something more in this universe to share in the new year; I’m working with an artist to adapt another story into comic form.  I’m really excited about that one… And I really dig the world I’m building using short stories.  I think there might be something more there, something bigger.

Also, I’m adapting my latest novel into a screenplay, which I will start shopping around in January/February.  My screenplay chops are a little rusty, but it’s coming along.

So I’ll keep writing, and submitting, and sharing.

Thanks once again for reading.

Good News Everyone!

Hah, so soon after my last announcement, I’m extremely pleased to tell you that I’ve had another acceptance.  This one is for a short story entitled “Mirror Twenty-Two”, and it will be published by Haunted Waters Press.

This one is ‘for the love’, meaning, non-paying, but another credit, none-the-less.  🙂

Best of all, it will be available online, and you can read it for free!  I will include the link when it’s up.

“Mirror Twenty-Two” is part of an ongoing project of mine, wherein the Canadian Artefact Recovery and Containment organisation sends teams of Recovery/Containment officers on mission to secure paranormal objects.

“Mirror Twenty-Two” is an extremely dangerous artifact in a farmhouse, and CARC Team Alpha must recover it at all costs.

…though there’s a little girl in the attic with it.

I look forward to sharing it with you.

In other news, work on the novel is going swimmingly.  I cracked the 40k word mark the other day, and the end is actually coming soon than I expected; I think it will cap off at around 65k or 70k, depending on how things go.  Nearly there!  I feel a limit break coming on…

Thanks for reading.

Good news everyone!

I’ve had my third acceptance!

Well, my piece was accepted in March, but they were dealing with volume 1.  The contract finally was sent out, and I signed it.  I wanted to wait until it was ‘official’ before announcing it.  Good things come to those who wait!

I’ve been really bolstered by this one.

One piece published is a fluke.

Two could be a horrible mistake.

Three is the start of a beautiful friendship.  Three is pattern.  Three is what starts a career.  Man oh man am I ever happy to be telling you guys about my third publication.

My short story “Monday Matinee Madness” is about a Projectionist surviving in the zombie apocalypse, running films every Monday.  It will appear in Zombies Gone Wild vol.2, edited by Michael S. Gardner and Matt Nord.  It’s sure to be an eclectic mix of tales of the zombie apocalypse.  I will make sure you hear about the release date!

Thanks for checking in ever so often.  I hope to share more great news, like this, with you more and more frequently.

But for now, I’m 34,000 word into the book, and it’s coming along nicely.  Solved some problems I was having about conflict and the antagonist.  My next post will be all about PAX, which I was at over the weekend.  It was way. cool.

Thanks for reading.

Good News, Everyone!

Yes, good news indeed!

I’ve received another acceptance for a short piece!

It’s an anthology of zombie flash fiction:

It’s going to be published by Hazardous Press.

I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s out.  Should be a riveting collection of all things zombie related.

My piece is called “Coping Mechanisms” and features a Projectionist named Rose, and some settings familiar to my fellow Vancouverites.

I’m actually getting royalties!  Ooooh, aaaaah!  I’m excited.  It will be out in print and ebook formats.

In the mean time, got to keep writing!  Sure feels good to get an acceptance; really bolsters my spirits.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for reading, following, commenting, and linking: your support is really helping me get my career off the ground.  I hope to string you along on a lifetime of exciting work!

Good news everyone!

Hello friends!

I am very pleased to announce some very good news!

Firstly, welcome to heidilengwenat.com – I am extremely pleased to begin my blog.

Secondly: a piece of mine has been accepted into an anthology!

The book is called “Once Bitten, Never Die” and is about what happens when people are bitten by werewolves, vampires, zombies etc.  Sure to be an exciting read.  The editor actually wants to open the book with my piece, “Seven of Seven of Seven”, as it is very short (flash fiction, 343 words), and will set the tone of the book nicely.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yeah, as you can tell by all the exclamation marks, I am pretty stoked about this.  It will be the first time my work will appear in print.  IN PRINT, in a BOOK.

When the anthology becomes available, I will plug it mercilessly.  😀

The cover will look something like this:

And my face will look something like this:

Their table of contents is shaping up; see it here.

This is the first of many.  I look forward to similar exciting announcements in the future.  😀

Also, see below for my initial post.  I look forward to keeping this blog updated with nifty things.

Thanks for reading.
